To be completed on May 8th 2016
The very last mitzvah in the Torah is the commandment for each Jew to write a Torah. For most of us, the writing of a complete Sefer Torah is beyond our reach. By partnering with others in the joint writing of a Torah, one not only fulfills his obligation but also has the added virtue of uniting with fellow Jews through the performance of this very special mitzvah.
Early commentators and halachic sources identify this mitzvah as extending beyond the literal writing of the Torah scroll with quill and parchment. It is the Torah’s final directive commissioning each and every Jew to ensure the eternity of the Torah and its perpetuation for all generations.
The Community Partnership Sefer Torah project provides the opportunity for our friends and neighbors to fulfill this commandment in its literal sense, through the actual writing of the very first Sefer Torah written by the Kollel. At the same time, the project’s multi-tiered dedication opportunities, offer an everlasting share in the broader context of this paramount mitzvah of perpetuating the Torah for eternity.
The writing of the Community Partnership Sefer Torah began on ראש חודש סיון תשע”ה - May 18th, 2015, and will be completed b’ezras Hashem on ראש חודש אייר תשע”ו May 8th, 2016. A grand siyum is being planned in conjunction with the completion of this momentous event, followed by a community procession to the Kollel Beis Medrash. Details will be forthcoming.
